Maintaining Tradition

through cultural heritage and the traditional arts & crafts

At HYF we believe in the power of children to shape and change the future. We also know that they are better equipped to do so when they have an appreciation for their past and the traditions of their peoples. At Kailash Home, all children are instructed in music & dance, both traditional and more contemporary. They learn Nepali language and history and are given the opportunity, where possible, to return to their home villages and families for home visits. While we know our young people are global citizens, connected to the larger world through technology and their relationships with sponsors and friends, we also know that they are the best hope for lifting up their communities and families.

Home Visit Program

Our Kailash Kids come from every region of Nepal, from crowded Kathmandu neighborhoods to refugee settlements to the most rural mountain villages. At HYF we believe that maintaining cultural and geographical ties to their roots enables our children to become better stewards of their communities in the future. Each year a number of our children are escorted back to their home villages by a member of Kailash staff for an extended stay. These visits not only provide a chance to reconnect with extended family and friends, but also allow our Kailash Kids to travel and experience more facets of their home country.
