Running & Athletics

Our Kailash Kids love to run! And we encourage them to take every opportunity — from training at Kailash Home, to participating in local trail races, to the official selection of Team Kailash to run the annual Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon. In addition to a vibrant running program, the Kailash courtyard sees all kinds of other athletic competitions including soccer, basketball, and even the occasional game of tag.

Music & Dance

As a part of HYF’s commitment to maintaining cultural connections between our children and their heritage, both dance and music are taught to all ages. Spanning a broad swath of genres, these lessons include traditional Nepali and Tibetan styles to more contemporary genres as well. This focus also supplements what the children are learning in their traditional classrooms. For more on cultural tradition at Kailash, visit the Heritage page.

Outings & Gatherings

Located just outside Nepal’s capital city of Kathmandu, Kailash is perfectly situated for day trips both to cultural sites in the city and excursions to the natural wonders of the country. During weekends and school holidays, the staff at Kailash organize fun and educational outings. Additionally, local and international visitors are welcomed to Kailash each year to lead workshops and programs in a variety of subjects.

Photography & Media

Beginning in 2024, Kailash in close partnership with HYF staff will begin offering two exciting new programs for our children — a marketing & digital media internship for select senior students and a dedicated photography seminar. As children coming of age in an increasingly digital world, our Kailash Kids have an innate knowledge of all things technology related, and these new programs will allow them to harness those skills and expand their knowledge in a directed setting.

Art

Many of our Kailash Kids are talented in the areas of painting and drawing and these abilities are nurtured in their school programs and life at Kailash Home. Many of our donors and sponsors have been the proud recipients of original Kailash works of art, and donations from the sales of student artwork are used to supplement the extracurricular offerings each year.

Farming & Culinary Arts

The Kailash bakery has been a staple for years and with the addition of a brand new kitchen space in 2019, the culinary arts program is expanding even further. Under the guidance of Kailash staff, children can learn not only to bake, but how to prepare classic Nepali and international dishes using produce that has been grown at Kailash as part of the farming program.

Birthdays & Holidays

With 100 children and staff, someone is always celebrating a birthday at Kailash Home. HYF sponsors a monthly birthday celebration including sweet treats! Major holidays (both Nepali and Western) like Holi and Christmas are also special occasions at Kailash as are visits from international donors & sponsors, volunteers, and returning alumni. In short, there’s always something worth celebrating going on at Kailash Home!
